Some academics, a comedian and a musician walk into a bar… No, this isn’t a joke, this is the standard line-up for Bright Club. If you’ve never heard of Bright Club you’re certainly missing out. This is a comedy night with a difference; researchers and academics take to the stage to reveal the comic goings on behind university doors. The event is compèred by a professional stand-up and usually includes a local music act.
The academics are locally sourced from the North East and bring a wide range of experience, subjects, and performance styles to the night. Previous sets have covered all manner of things including nights out in Newcastle, how to abduct an ape and the politics of poo. No subject is off the cards – science, history, art, maths, techno-spirituality (exactly what it sounds like) – Bright Club has seen them all. This spectacular hodgepodge of performers and topics means that every event is different and fresh, combining cutting edge research with side splitting comedy.

“I laughed, I cried, I conquered. Bright Club was simultaneously the most challenging and rewarding thing I have done to date.” – Lauren Powell, previous performer
